Switched from Macbook to an MSI running #PopOS. Only con about this new laptop; Battery life with screen brightness low is about ~50 minutes.

Installed https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1082/cpufreq/ and tweaked battery life settings... 4 hours of battery life right now 😄.

Enough for some evening of coding in the garden 🌅

I'm looking for a suitable, beginner-friendly, good-looking #linux distro to revive an old Dell Latitude E6530 laptop.

use case: linux beginner coming from Windows, school, some programming basics (Scratch, Python), general use

specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5-3320M 2.6Ghz
(64 bit)
NVIDIA NVS 5200M (GDDR5 1GB)
8GB DDR3
128GB SSD

That's still pretty beefy for a 11y laptop, so it doesn't have to be super lightweight.

What distro would you install?

My ongoing adventures in using Linux on the desktop landed me on Pop OS, and I must say I like it. A lot more of a "just works" vibe to the basics (as in, getting it installed with sound coming out of the speakers and whatnot), and I've been using it pretty comfortably for a few days now.

Never really stuck with using Linux for my main desktop because of one thing: The time and energy investment for trying a new thing was always just that little bit higher. And one of my #ADD traits is shying away from anything my brain thinks is too energy-consuming to get started, so that's always clashed. But that's all a lot better now, big distros have more welcoming interfaces and I know more things.

Also, the font rendering doesn't look quite as much like ass these days. Used to be a pretty big gap compared to Windows/MacOS on this one.

Im really digging #linux #popos so far but I am itching to try other distros and other desktop environments. I've been really curious about fedora gnome. Might try that at some point

I almost gave up on the #TuxbookAir project, but I still found a cheap MacBook Air from 2015 on eBay. And they one on which works the #PopOS Install! I will now continue to play around with it to see if you can run well with #Linux.

Anyways, I'm gonna be asking for some help with some computer issues.
Main issue is slow POST times with my Asus ROG Strix X670E-E.
Next few issues I have are the drivers(I'm using #PopOS 22.04) for the integrated 2.5G ethernet port crashes randomly, and the mic input from the case(ThermalTake View 51 Snow), can barely be heard, the input is so quiet.

En effet mes #tags ou #etiquettes ne sont pas toutes retrouvées par digikam... et comme de nombreuses personnes, j'ai plusieurs milliers de photos que j'ai patiemment étiquetté, alors si vous avez une #solution je suis à votre écoute 😁.

@system76 definitely gets things right in terms of theming with #COSMIC on #PopOS. Of course, it's easier to develop a complex dynamic theme engine based on dynamic colors rather than retrofitting #GNOME with it's lot of legacy baggage and hard-coded values. But I think them spearheading a proper accent based theming platform drove velocity for this feature in GNOME as well, benefiting us all.

Had to work through some minor issues when getting the original Diablo 2 running on #popos but things work well now.

I dont know what i did to make skyrim run far worse on native #arch than #popos using the #lutris #flatpak, but all im saying is that going from dropping as low as 20 to hitting low 100s is pretty neat.

#Firefox: Não consegui salvar imagem, não consegui fazer upload de imagem. Só abre uma janelinha preta toda bugada que não permite fazer nada. Userstyles (o site) não funciona, Stylish (a extensão) também não.

Eu estou usando duas janelas do #Edge, uma com login do trabalho e outra com a conta pessoal.

Update on the iMac 2009 with #PopOS @system76 : sadly the Nvidia 9400M is not supported with the latest kernels.

Using a PPA, we can install a patched set of 340 series drivers (last supported for the GPU), but got artifacts and occasionally a freeze.

Reverted this and rolling with Nouveau. Just hope at some point we have opennvk and Nvidia just does the right thing and start supporting their gear on Linux.
