Yesterday, at , Micheal Wooldridge gave a talk about "How to Speak to the Public about Artificial Intelligence". Good talk, interesting stories and very funny.

Morality: "if you don't inform the public about AI, then someone who knows even less than you will."

Keep in mind that this is addressed to a public of people having or pursing a PhD in the field.

Currently reading another book on quantum physics that I can’t recommend to my father because it’s full of references to memes that he won’t get, and will find either silly or confusing. Not the first time.

Something to consider when you are writing a pop sci book and you are trying to make it accessible to all.

This needs hashtags, any suggestions?

The idea of the Wood Wide Web - that trees communicate with each other via a network of symbiotic fungi in their roots - has become increasingly popular over the last few years. But turns out it might be entirely false.

A fascinating read by some of the very people who helped spread that idea in the first place. Now this is science.

Sally Adee is a science and technology journalist with a long history of "how human minds and bodies intersect with the machines we create". In 2012 she wrote a feature story on bioelectricity technology that Yuval Noah Harari cites in his excellent book Homo Deus. So she's been interested in the topic of bioelectricity for quite some time...

Read more of my review of Adee's upcoming book (will be released on Feb. 28) on my blog - stevesbookstuff.com/2023/01/ar

Un peu de dans la c1984 par rapport à la : "une mentale" pour faire référence à la perte de mémoire au lieu de la perte de faculté langagière. Dans ce cas, le personnage peut bien s'exprimer et bien comprendre les autres.

The is less Victorian history of science than the blurb had led me to expect; and more ecology, zoology, and reportage on meetings with captive caracaras, with a beautiful travelogue section on a journey to seek out caracaras in the rainforest. If you’re interested in animal intelligence — especially bird intelligence (As I am, having written some dinosaur POV sections for an unpublished manuscript!) — _Most Remarkable Creature_ is a beautiful, stirring read.
