Spent my Sunday working on an upcoming #music release: "Dead Internet"!

It's my first #vaporwave track, out on Oct 13th, inspired by the mellow sounds used in 90's software like #Windows95.

Much like how vaporwave can be seen as a satirical take on consumer capitalism, "Dead Internet" is my satirical take on modern #SurveillanceCapitalism on the web, with lots of annoying #PopUps, bots, and the theory the web is "dead" with most online traffic being bot and AI-generated.

Dear browser devs: please make an add-on where I can go in, set my damn cookie preferences once, and it automatically sets for every GDPR required pop up on sites I visit. @stux @aral Personally, if I was a #WebDev and not a principal opponent of #PopUps and #DarkPattern I'd specifically design a #PopUp and #Blocker to ban #Chrome from sites...

But I know this will rather get weaponized by the #advertising #Industry as yet another #AdblockerBlocker than anything...

You know the annoying #popups you get on web pages?

Sometimes I just ignore them and refuse to dismiss them. Then if the popup grows and covers the screen, I leave the page.

That is all.

Is anyone else having issues with the #captioning on #YouTube when using #Chromecast with your #TV, i.e. the captions turn off after an #AdBreak? I'm getting really frustrated with it, it's bad enough having adverts seemingly every other minute and the constant #PopUps for their Premium upgrade. Urgh.

Any feed which uses the term 'woke' as though it is an intellectually and ethically valid criticism is going to be blocked on my social media, Flipboard etc. Starting with NY Post tonight. Especially with popups.

Also any feed pushing the exploitative generic "(celebrity or pseudo-celebrity) stuns (imaginary audience) by wearing (revealing/unremarkable outfit)" etc. I celebrate talent, not attention-seeking exploitative clothes horses.

Meetup.com, I don't want to buy drugs! Popping up an ad that is disguised as a confirmation for signing up for an event is not okay. Using my name in the ad is not okay. I suppose the event organizer hasn't been informed and consented to this. I keep saying No, and it keeps popping up on every event.

This only started when I switched the site to German, which I was forced to do, because in English, times are off by 12 hours, making them terribly difficult to read.

My first experience opening a page on Twitter: A popup covering the page, asking me to allow notifications.

Notifications of what? I'm not subscribing to anyone. I'm not even signed in. And I don't even have an account. I'm only trying to read a page.

Either Twitter is clinically disoriented, or it's phishing for permssion for tracking and spamming. Why doesn't my web browser automatically block popups?

I don't want to confirm or manage choices! No one ever asked for those options! Give me a reject button that has the same prominence as the accept button, otherwise it's not consent, but coercion. On top of that, Ars Technica also demands to track my precise location and do device fingerprinting, just so I can read an article. How can they show such disrespect for their readers? Why doesn't Firefox automatically block the popup and offer reader mode?

Spent a fabulous afternoon yesterday glimpsing #popups in the wild from the collection of Ricky Jay at #PotterAuctions!

Before even seeing an article at Tech Crunch/Yahoo, they demand my consent to track my precise location. 😱 The accept button is clearly highlighted, whereas the reject button is hidden in a control panel with too many options that no one ever asked for. How can Yahoo do such a thing without being abandoned by its users and put out of business by the courts? Why doesn't my web browser automatically find the reject button and show me the article?
