I use a crypto wallet and was shocked to see braze.eu pinging me. Seriously? Searched for Braze on #mullvadbrowser and want nothing of their 'customer centric information.'

@iUseLinuxBtw @fatboy The GUI does take forever and a day. Their beta testing VPN is sleeker but the CLI works the best.

Although just found #Portmaster from #safing and think I am leaving regular VPNs altogether. It's been two weeks now with Portmaster and I think I am getting the hang of it - not that it requires that much time but it is different.

I have installed portmaster which changes the dns resolver.
After some testing I deinstalled portmaster.
Now my system tells me there is do dns.
$dig www.qwant.com
Says no resolver can be found. It tries 127-0-0-53 53
So I went to my network settings and configured manually 9.9.9.9 for my current network.
No change.
I rebooted. No change
I wanted to check if the network manager is running. It seems not and I could not restart.
What do I do?

Ich habe auf einer virtuellen Maschine mit windows 10 die Firewall #portmaster (https://github.com/safing/portmaster) ausprobiert. Ich kann nur jedem raten, das mal zu tun.
Die Maschine lief ca. 1/2h und ich habe in der Zeit gerade mal Firefox installiert.

Damit wünsche ich euch allen einen guten Rutsch in ein datenschutzfreundliches Jahr 2023.

On #Ubuntu #portmaster is a decent Open Source security software.

It adds transparency, and a layer 7 (personal) firewall.

To my surprise, Ubuntu has quite some telemetry build into its services. This can be blocked, and you can also enable whitelisting of applications to allow network access.
It seems to use iptables over netfilter though, but that isn't a compatibility issue.
