I already posted a couple of quotes from Keller, and it is another one that speaks to my heart, but more importantly, captures an important insight into the human heart in general.

If we do not connect with someone deeply - then it is unlikely to be felt beyond the moment of experience or gratification.

What is it that you feel deeply towards?

Mark Twain is a favourite of mine - he has a no-nonsense yet humorous approach to the basic building blocks of life โ€ฆ For example, he famously said โ€œAlways do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.โ€

This one below is so blatantly simple - almost foolish - yet I believe he is โ€˜spot onโ€™ (as they say here). Other than when formulating some ideas and planning the road ahead, there is no movement in talking, thinking, dreaming, and imagining. All of those are great as a way to start the process, but mean nothing until some action happens.

What have you been talking about - maybe for a while - and how can you take the first step to get head from idea to action?

There are so many different definitions of success.

And in my experience, most people I coach have achieved their target definition, yet still find themselves unfulfilled, or worse, unhappy.

I do like this saying from Michelle Obama. For my 2 cents, this has to do with life being a journey, not a race to achieve. A journey, that in its innermost meaning, is about sharing the journey and learning to enjoy the road - the mountains AND the valleys; the highs and the lowsโ€ฆ not about getting somewhere.

And in sharing the journey, it is the difference that we make in othersโ€™ lives that seems to deliver the best feelings, and most impactful results - it is the impressions that we live in other peopleโ€™s hearts.

Brontรซ is most famous for her second novel - Jane Eyre.

It is a testament to the status of educated but impoverished women in the cloistered culture of her time, that she - and her other two sisters who together formed one of the world's most famous literary family - had to use pseudonyms when they published. She only revealed her identity after it was printed and became successfulโ€ฆ

To insnare oneself in that context must have taken much temerity and toil, and as she poignantly points out, the cages of expectations of how women should behave were not kind to their sense of being or their will. How wonderful that she and her siblings did unshackle themselves as such, and left us some wonderful readings to withstand the vagaries of history (his story) and times.

Dornfest is a well-known parenting blogger. I like this quote because it suggests both a road map for showing up in our own lives, as well as playing a role model to the people we have the most influence in shaping their own psychology and relationship with the world - our children.

When I think about it, this is indeed the best recipe for creating a better world. I can hardly change circumstances, but I can change my response. And by being my best version in response to trying and challenging circumstances, I have the best chance to create a better world.

De Beauvoir was an early feminist and an advocate of equality in terms of what men and women can - and should be allowed - to do. A prolific writer, a philosopher (though she refused to be branded as such at her time), and a political activist, she was not one to โ€˜follow the crowdโ€™.

She was also the love relation of JP Sartre (identified with Existentialism and he of โ€˜other people are hellโ€™ fame) but differed from his approach of self-centered individualism by advocating individualism in balance with belonging to a group. She stood her own ground and staked her own path - as per this beautiful quote.

I also like this quote because to me it highlights a much more recent phenomenon in the domain of how younger generations take on (or maybe, off) the notion of a specific gender identity and its designated social destiny. No one should be in charge of anyoneโ€™s entirety in whatever facet they appear, and much of the current revolution in gender politics is the battleground of this strife for ownership of a sort on what it is to be a man, or a woman.

Probably not a popular opinion with some, but my sense is that ultimately our expression of who we are is more fluid and in the moment - showing up with both masculine and feminine energies (like, can I use this word on LinkedIn?). Certainly, my children, and their friends, seem quite content to explore and experiment, and as long as no one of that age makes a radical and irreversible decision too early in their arc of emotional maturation, I believe they - and collectively, us - would be better for it.

In case you have not heard of him, Drucker was a management theory โ€˜Giantโ€™, or maybe a โ€˜Guruโ€™ - but whichever G we attribute to him, he was surely great at it.

And while some might say that this quip has a whiff of the โ€˜law of attractionโ€™ to it, my sense is that Drucker (who also famously said โ€œIf you can't measure it, you can't manage it.โ€) was advocating for innovation and creativity in management - to think outside the box and chart a new way to results - as indeed any disruptive business should.

I doubt there are many people who use the internet who need an introduction to Jobs - the man and his work.

One could say that by the sheer virtue of his disruptive work (personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing), he was also a prophet - or at least a philosopher of sorts.

I love this video in which he shares advice with a generation of students who grew up with him and will no doubt grow beyond what we can imagine for now.

This is not the first time I share a quote from Sandberg, who is obviously a thinker not just a tech leader.

And yet I am not sure about this particular assertion of hers - in my experience, many times the challenge is how to do great work even if you donโ€™t necessarily love what you do - how to show up 100% for what life dishes out for your doing. It is easy to do so when the subject matter is loved; much harder when it is challenging, difficult, frustrating - parenting an obstinate child for example, or managing a team through a tough periodโ€ฆ

This is a classic oft quoted in these days of political upheavals and uncertainty.

Burke, who was a fairly renowned Irish/English long-time member of parliament in the 18th century, is sometimes seen as the statesman who gave shape to modern conservatismโ€ฆ So, it is an odd irony that much of the โ€˜evilโ€™ perpetrated today is driven by leaders who will define themselves as conservatives of a sort.

Good leadership in our times must embrace the interconnectedness of our world and ourselves and therefore needs to be progressive in its nature.

Eleanor Roosevelt is one of my all time favourite leaders and โ€˜quip makersโ€™ - she was the first FLOTUS to actually chart an impactful and major role as the First Lady of the US, and was a champion of gender equality and beyond in the important transition era of post world war II.

Renรฉe Giarrusso is an innovator, speaker, thought-leader, change-enabler, and professional educator. She has been leading workshops and seminars, written books, and appeared on numerous TV and Radio episodes on matters of leadership, mindsets, and more.

I had the pleasure and honour to be a guest on her Limitless Leadersโ„ข podcast a few weeks ago and we had great fun chatting on all sorts of things including leadership, neuroplasticity, and service.

Shah is an interesting Internet Marketing โ€˜guruโ€™ of a sort and a successful entrepreneur in his own right. So he certainly packs the credentials for success.

That said, I am both curious and conflicted about his saying here - in the normal โ€˜law of attractionโ€™ popular speak arena, this is a fairly common notion of how we should see and live ourselves to be that which we want to be. I get it - both for the idea that we live from within our identity as we see it, and even from the perspectives of living through language and neuroplasticity to extend our horizons.

And yet, there is something of the spiritual bypassing feel to this - privilege, destiny, interrelated narratives of culture, and social/economical/geopolitical upheavals all play a part in how our stories unfoldโ€ฆ And yes, mindset is maybe the most important ingredient in how we live our lives and walk the talk, but there has to be grace, timing and, yes, even luck, in success.

I love the practice of these quote posts because - as I try to source quotes from a variety of backgrounds - it behoves me to explore sources I would normally not look for - like this one for exampleโ€ฆ

I feel this one by Lopez is deep and meaningful in three ways - doubt is the killer of all aspirations and goodwill, not to mention self-worth; knowing ourselves is an imperative for a life worth living; - as is indeed standing for oneโ€™s valuesโ€ฆ Very succinct and wise.

Self-evident quip from Jolie, but worth the attention for this simple reason - much of the time, we donโ€™t actually know we are in a box - until we somehow got yanked out of it by life.

The field of not knowing what we donโ€™t know is invariably, well, unknown. We have no idea what we miss when we strongly insist on staying with the familiar.

Of course, how do break this impasse - by being innovative, courageous, creative, imaginative and venture outside what is comfortable to us. Think outside the box, so to speak.

I normally think twice about posting quotes from modern-day religious leaders as the domain can be contentious to someโ€ฆ

But this one by Kimball - who was a prominent Mormon leader - has a non-denominational feel and indeed goes straight to the idea that the universe favours action.

Dreaming is a great way to stretch our notions of what is possible and what we can achieve - but without working to make them happen, not a lot will happen.

Jordan needs no introduction - often touted as โ€˜Basketballโ€™s greatest playerโ€™, ever, he certainly was one of the topmost sports people known in recent times.

All that said, I was not sure if to post this quote. Essentially, yeah, OK, trueโ€ฆ But what is he actually trying to say here?

I am guessing that what he is aiming to highlight is that people who take action get results, while dreamers and wishers likely not. And he was - by all evidence - a very hardworking athlete.

The idea that what shows up in your life as a challenge is also an opportunity for growth has been explored by many. But I like the visual experience that Caine manages in this simple quip.

Caine is interesting - an Australian based in the States, she is a church-based anti-trafficking advocate who is very active in the male-dominated world of evangelism. I am fascinated with the ability of preachers to provide such convincing leadership in large halls, solely based on appealing to and strengthening the core of followers' beliefs (as opposed to providing leadership through evidence-based methodologies).

In this modern era of fake news and sound-bubbles, it is obvious to me that many of us humans prefer narratives that uphold our values and increase feel-good experiences than explore outside our comfort zones. What is the benefit of modern-day realism if - tied in with the technological advancement of proxy communication - we are ruthlessly hurtling towards disconnection from others and feeling a massive lack of belongingโ€ฆ? We all seem to walk around with tribe-shaped holes in our hearts.

For myself, I'm always seeking how to anchor the spiritual experience in data that makes sense outside the boundaries of its own elevated etherealism. Yet, I am not disputing the benefit of the religious experience as an act of belonging and behavioural guidance - with the strong caveat that when it has no authority or moral ground to tell you to cause any suffering or dogmatically to rule other people in its name.

It is pretty evident to me that as a content producer, one way or another, AI will play a role in the future as the field is racing ahead to disrupt just about anything and anyone that involves language - and beyond!

So I am playing around with trying to figure out how to use it - meaning both in terms of process/content and the ethical and IP aspects of running a so-called โ€˜Wisdom Businessโ€™.

More specifically, since much of the work I do in training and coaching pertains to self-awareness, the nature of consciousness, EQ, and similar, I am particularly curious if AI - smart beyond comprehension, yet without any โ€˜soulโ€™, so to speak, can actually capture these ideas that are relevant and useful.

Those of you who have been experimenting with these options have probably figured out already - or you might have heard - that the prompt itself is super important.

I asked, โ€œWhat are the skills of self-awareness? please summarise what you can find but only from sources that are verified by peer group scientific researchโ€ฆโ€ - I added that second instruction because I have seen, repeatedly - from others and my own experience - that AI writers will simply cobble together all sorts of stuff without the ability to decipher what is actually real or not.

So here are the main elements that a super-duper-uber computer power with no real-life understanding of the experience of being conscious nor lived insight into the complexities inherent in being human has generated. From my own limited perch, it is a pretty good summary of the relevant facets of knowing self.
