@fuchsiashock OH BOI! My fav topic! :D

We decided to privatize our entire postal service around 2006 or so... And guess how well THAT went??? :D

Mail within Finland can travel up to some 1300km before reaching it's destination within 30km, because cost-cutting puts an emphasis on centralization.

It's "more expensive" to handle mail locally, so instead they get sent to HUGE sorting facilities, regardless of how far away those might be from the sender and receiver.

Also, Posti Oy (the mail company, which used to be just "Posti", our postal service) CEO once publicly entertained the idea of shifting most of it's operations to Estonia, because labor is cheaper there than in Finland.

Posti Oy is also pretty loud when it comes to attempts at union busti-

*ahem*

"offering incentives to hard workers" during strikes.

I'm probably just scratching the surface here, but privatization of Finland's postal services was a mistake we are seemingly unable to roll back on.

Don't let the same mistake happen to you, folks!

I do think that converting vehicles of all kinds to electric is something viable and achievable.

The cost of new cars is currently out of reach for many people, and it tends to be 10-15 years or more before most cars of a given year leave the general market (not including collectors) and reach obsolescence, depending on the economy at the time.

So I think it would be more effective to subsidize purchases of new , but only for people of a certain max income. Wealthier people will buy them anyway (they are doing so near me, that's for sure), but less wealthy people only buy used cars. They are the ones to target with programs to get more on the road.

Cargo trucks & industrial vehicles would be an excellent place to start . I know the U.S. has mentioned electrifying their fleet, which would be a huge improvement for the .

sad but also awesome - A new postal service will be run by the District Community Association - an army of volunteers is reopening a post office in the NSW Snowy Mountains town after years without any postal services. abc.net.au/news/2023-03-25/dal
