Sitting in a coffeeshop. There are a rack of city bikes outside. I watch a man from the coffeeshop across the street trying to get one of the bikes to work. He walks back and forth poking them with his phone, waiting for anything to happen, with an increasingly bemused confusion. After 2nd tries and maybe this times, he is forced to give up and walk. #postcard #Glasgow

A couple cross the pedestrian street. She swings a bag back for him to take from her. As he leans forward to take it she speeds up and he can't take it. They try again and the same happens. He laughs as she charges into the shop and he is forced to follow, presumably having intended to stand outside with the bag, but having been left no choice by the continued fumbled relay pass. #postcard #Glasgow

The child has kind of sang along to the coffeeshop's alt playlist. Nirvana's "Come As You Are" starts and the mother is the most animated she has been. Her head bobbing with entirely restrained enthusiasm. The man in the corner finishes his essay, picks up his stuff and wanders to the toilet, sheet of paper in hand, borrowed pen chewed on in his mouth. #postcard #Glasgow

An androgynous tween and their mother sit in the coffee shop. The child is restless, the ice drink is finished, even after a top up of milk from the flask on the counter. Their mum is glued to her phone. The kind wanders, pokes at the branded merch. Comes back. They stick one ear bud in their mother's ear, clumsy and awkward, though the mother is patient. They appear to mutter into their phone, while their mother smiles. This lasts about the length of a song. #postcard #Glasgow

A man interrupts the cashier in process of serving the woman in front of me. Though, he at least attempts an apology. He is looking for a pen. A pen. Usually someone wants a pen for a quick note, something like that. I've been served, I've got my tea and my sandwich, eaten half of it. I glance over, the man is in the corner, headphones on, back to the shop, apparently writing an essay. Don't know if he works here, though certainly not showing any evidence like uniform. #postcard #Glasgow

In kitchen for tea break. Making coffee and 2nd breakfast (first was a banana). When a cat I've never seen before is walking by. But it catches sight of me and stops. Deciding I'm interesting it sits down to watch me. So I start playing up to my audience, dancing back and forth as I wash a few dishes while kettle boils, and spoon coffee out once ready. I nip to fridge and back, cat still there even though I disappeared. Head back and forth, tracking my movement. Before it gets bored. #postcard

A drive to work. You can feel the seasons change. Weeks ago at the highest point the view was incredible. Now visibility is way down, cloud and potential for mist. There are works up here, some forestry and a power substation. New carpark in middle of nowhere. Logs piled amongst the trees. A man walks along the road, back to traffic, carrying big bags. A jacket, shorts, a baseball cap. He feels out of place. #postcard

Last weekend we got a good old #Postcard from abroad.

When I handled the card something seemed weird, not right, off...

It had identical stamps on both sides, no pictures, just the handwritten card text.

???

Turned out the card directed to us was carrying a second postcard piggy back.

Postal ink to invalidate the stamps got onto the picture side of the card and glued this other postcard to our postcard face to face 🙂 so both picture sides were glued together and by coincidence the postal sorter in the U.S. saw our address on the card, not the other address, and so we got the glued-double-postcard delivered to our mailbox.

The subsequent Congresses (annual, then biennial, up to 1948, with wartime interruptions) issued postcards and sometimes secured special local postmarks.
