So, I am of Irish (and the Scots,) background, with my great
grandparents immigrating from Ireland to Nova Scotia on the death ships during the #potatofamine, and the others immigrating directly to Virginia, long before the famine. To me, and others like me, “the luck of the Irish,” is tongue in cheek as we understand that we have been either enslaved or indentured for all of modern history. We don’t drink on St. Padriag Day, because we know he was a slave too. And he was not Irish. 1/2
