After our walk by Offut, we headed down to Lock 7 where we also checked out Little Falls dam. There was a ton of wildlife on the C&O Canal path - great blue herons, night herons, turtles, bass, carp, and ducks (we think blue-winged teals). I got a picture of a great blue and night heron on the same tree and was kicking myself for not bringing my Nikon.

Had a fun walk searching for pawpaws with Chris and Stef this afternoon. We walked out to one of my fav small surf spots by Offut Island and I showed them what pawpaw tree leaves look like and how to spot pawpaws. We found some nice ones that easily fell off the trees, but they aren't ripe enough to eat. We may check again in a week or two. Hopefully, these will ripen in the boat 🤞.
Oh, we all found a spicebush and chewed on a few berries.

I heard that Jazzy Lady was going to finish her 190+ NM trip to Gangplank Marina last night (left from Sassafras Harbor Marina on Friday morning). Went to bed around 10pm and got up at midnight to catch lines and help tie up.
We had overcast skies, so went back to bed and did not try to see the meteors. Hope some others had better conditions.

This is my first passage under the 301 Bridge since they started removing the old bridge. I loved the aesthetic of the old bridge, so it's a bit sad to see it almost completely dismantled. The new bridge is boring imho and lacks character 🤷.

My neighbor sent me this photo of a large gar (approximately 30") he saw while out on his dinghy. Unfortunately, the gar is injured and missing a big portion of its tail and was not swimming well. Can't think of what would cause this? Prop strike? Entanglement in fishing line? Has anyone seen this before?
