#WilliamMoorcroft (1872-1945) was one of the most celebrated #potters of the early twentieth century. His career extended from the #Arts and #Crafts movement of the #lateVictorian age to the #Austerityaesthetics of the Second World War. Rejecting mass production and patronised by #Royalty, #Moorcroft’s work was a synthesis of #studio and #factory, #art and #industry.

This book is a pioneering study by Jonathan Mallinson, Emeritus Fellow of Trinity College, Oxford. It follows the career of William Moorcroft through a wealth of private papers, letters and diaries, business correspondence and published reviews in newspapers, trade magazines and #art journals. Richly illustrated with examples of his #pottery, it explores what lay behind the unique impact of work sought by #museums and treasured in homes the world over.

Little plug as we're having such a good time a #Potters #Holiday Resort this week. This is a family resort in #Norfolk which doesn't advertise, but relies on word of mouth and repeat visitors.

It's been going for 100 years with the same family running the place, and they've continued to invest in the site and facilities, rather than expand like similar British holiday camps.

@tallben I just created some lists that I knew covered swaths of folks I followed, then opened all the profiles and did some choosing. Now I am caught up, and I will be able to look at, for example, all the #makers #printmakers #potters or #fiber artists I follow with a single click.

I need to practice a lot more, but not bad for only my second or third session following a year without doing any #pottery.
Managed to throw seven small pots off the lump and one large-ish bowl. Only had one or two flops.

Years ago my husband lamented that we did not have a large enough table for entertaining guests, and that conversation was difficult at a square table. In true Arthurian (Knights of the Round Table) inspiration, we created this tile table. I designed and produced all the tile and he built the base. It is 6 feet across and incorporates imagery of local wildflowers amongst other feelings of cycles and creation. #ceramics #potters #tile #art #MastoArt #DIY #firechild

But I'm curious: with chilly weather, #clay dries slower.

I am planning a #BisqueFire this weekend, and wonder if that's long enough for my last pieces to dry. They are rather thin; stacked on a high shelf in my living room in open crates.
I start my kiln at 80-90°c for a couple of hours to get rid of some moist.

What is your method and/or experience?

Even in Belgium (next door) and France, there are way more #potters that make "traditional production": the original #craft.

Art and Design are the Dutch ways of working with #Ceramics.
I miss a sturdy bunch of old men and woman who have a lot of technical knowledge, where you can learn from, where you can be some kind of apprentice.
