I rang back and this time I'm told "this service is not available at this time" and hangs up on me.
No option to be directed elsewhere. No advice on what else to do.
You screening calls? Upset I gave a statement at the #PovertyInquiry?
This is how we die.

In a regional setting you're less likely to have quality free wifi. That then has consequences." β@RossWomersley@twitter.com #PovertyInquiry #BTPM

Unconscionable, short sighted and plain stupid decision.
So many people are going to needlessly suffer, if they don't die of malnutrition or exposure first.

Thank you again Senator Rice for hearing my story, and for engaging with us unlike the other politicians in the hearing.

Finally weeded back my first submission to @senatepovertyinquiry@gup.pe to 700+ words
I'll be putting it up as a Google Doc in due course.
Now time to deal with the excess 1000 words...
There's no a gup.pe group for the current Senate Inquiry into the effects of poverty. It's @senatepovertyinquiry@gup.pe.
Follow it & tag it into your posts to reach anyone on mastodon who shares your interest in this inquiry.
Three Big Questions for the #auspol #PovertyInquiry
1. Should people in need receive different levels of income support based solely on their age?
2. Means-tested support must include a punitive element to ensure compliance, so it has the seeds of RoboDebt included by design. Is Australia happy with this approach?
3. If we have a national commitment to free and universal health care, what about Dental? What about Aged Care?
Got a bit bogged down with my submission to the current Senate Inquiry on Poverty, because too many rabbit holes.
So here's a google Doc I created, outlining (sort of) a possible group submission and the issues it would cover.

The history of welfare policy in Australia begins here, with the Invalid and Old-age Pensions Act 1908:

Now for the ranty bit:
'ββ¦people were so nasty to you. Those who had jobs were so superior. I went down to get the dole this day, and I sat on the wrong side, and I was five minutes late getting to the side where I should have been. She abused me so much that I told her what she could do with the dole.β (Phyllis Acland, interviewed by Wendy Lowenstein in Weevils in the Flour)
Australia has never been kind to its unemployed workers. The attitudes and behaviour that Phyllis Acland experienced in 1932 are still with us today, propagated by the media, government agencies, job service providers...'
Too self-indulgent?
