The Go-Go’s release their first single, “We Got The Beat” b/w “How Much More”, on Stiff Records.

Excited to finally post this one. 😃

"How Much More" is my all time favorite Go-Go’s tune. This version, specifically. It’s so raw and energetic. You can hear the band’s early influences like The Ramones, The Ventures, Buzzcocks, etc.

Short, simple, and undeniably good fun. Most of the power is provided by that guitar riff and the huge drums, but really what makes these versions stand out is the joy you can feel the band had in making it. 🤩

These Glaswegians were so into Big Star they basically became Big Star – adored by critics and a tiny coterie of fans, but ignored by the wider world. Poised between the proto-grunge of their early work and power pop they’d adopt later, Bandwagonesque justifies the Alex Chilton fixation in songs like “The Concept” and “What You Do to Me” – rock and roll Haiku for the ages.
