after daily #powercuts since New year 2023, #CyrilRamaphosa has declared a National State of Disaster, allowing him (& his Govt.) to act 'decisively' to bring new #energy infrastructure on stream & use other emergency methods to deal with power shortages...

Perhaps looking to the UK & #Covid, opposition polticians think that this will allow a sort-cutting of the normal #procurement process & enable further #corruption - looking at the VIP lane they may have a point!

Just had an email from #UK Power Networks warning about possible #PowerCuts. This is the first *official* comms I have seen that talk about the possibility of rolling blackouts and explaining the block rota system. Kinda feels as though they have an expectation of needing to use it soon - especially given they are sending the comms out on a Sunday...

I may be easily impressed, but isn't it pretty amazing that we grow food that lasts easily 4 months with no special preparation or storage climate? We just keep ours on top of book shelves in the lounge.

Pumpkins are so versatile - my partner makes all kinds of super tasty dishes with these beauties. If you can, grow things that don't need a freezer to keep fresh.

I dont think Scot Govt or Scots energy companies believe Westminister /Tory statements about the chances of power cuts being "remote" and unlikely,got these in the post yesterday #Scotland #PowerCuts #winter ,,though the go inside and close all your doors and windows comment in the Emegency planning booklet gave me flash backs to the 1980s nuclear preparedness booklets

Talking to a colleague, y’day, who had a couple of hours of #powercuts over the weekend “It was so boring, there was nothing to do except go to bed.”

Denizens of the UK: brace yourselves! This could be the defining feature of this winter.

Get a thermos flask, and a habit of filling it with hot water at lunchtime.

Keep your devices charged and download a couple of films/books/podcasts as reserve.

NB: the gas may be on, but if the leccy controls are out, so is your heating!
