@ai6yr I did that with an old laptop I had previously. Bought a correct size coaxial power plug from the local electronics store, added some wiring much like that seen in the photo here, and put #Powerpole connectors at the other end; and plugged that one into the DC power bus.

Worked like a charm, except 14V wasn't quite enough to actually charge the battery (the nominal voltage of the laptop's PSU was, IIRC, 18V).

Unfortunately my current laptop has a proprietary power plug...

As a #ham you are almost required to #powerpole everything you own. Why not your #Yaesu FT-891, too?

@siracusa @jsnell Today’s “Robot or Not?” made me reflect on the cleverness of Anderson’s #Powerpole connectors, where the plug and the socket are identical! And predictably, the Wikipedia article on these connectors describes them as “hermaphroditic”. My little #lifepo4 battery is ready for the field. The 16AWG silicon wires are for the charge. The usage side (aka "power") uses 14AWG wires. Both are terminated with #PowerPole connectors. #hamradio #qrp

Big fan of the PowerPoles. This past week I converted our three Lionel O-gauge Christmas trains and tracks to use #PowerPole connectors.

Having PowerPole crimpers is essential. Another bench tool I've recently discovered is a awesome pair of wire strippers (see image). Between the PowerPole crimpers and these wire strippers, it makes the job so much more easier (and reliable).

A #PowerPole power connector to replace the stock one. I forgot the power cable once, but never again!

I 3D printed this bracket https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5443777 and install was quite straightforward with 2.5mm² wire. I had to mutilate the one size too big ring connectors, but it looks neat.

Decided against buying yet another "ham laptop" & make do with what I have: A Surface Pro 7 tablet-- perfectly adequate. Only had a field charging challenge, so this is my solution hack: A 12V to 15V car charger with a #powerpole adapter I made. #hamradio #offgrid #EMCOMM

I am wondering why every radio manufacturer uses these "T-type" power connectors. Don't they know hams #powerpole all the things? Also, I get the 50,000 ft of extra cable with fuses, but I end up only using several inches of it in each of my installations. #hamradio
