One of my absolute favourite albums of all time. Such upbeat #PowerPop blended with #NewWave and #PostPunk with some really good and deep lyrics. Every song on this album is a hit in my eyes.

20 years ago last month, a great rock n roll tragedy took place when The Exploding Hearts' van overturned, killing 3 of the 4 members. They were wrapping up a visit to San Francisco on the heels of their incredible debut, *Guitar Romantic*, heading back to Portland. We'll never know where their career would have gone from there, but they left behind one of the best power pop/punk records of all time.

Another example of perfect timing!

I was in the record store this morning & the owner said “Theres a milk crate on the floor that you might wanna go through. That stuff just came in about an hour ago.”

This record by Scotland’s Close Lobsters is an excellent jangle-pop record. Shimmering guitars, great melodies, expertly written songs of the genre.
Glad to add it to the library.

Le dernier album de Hurry s'intitule "Don't look back" mais le groupe regarde quand même un peu back, en l'occurrence en direction de la #powerpop des années 90, par exemple celle des premiers albums de Teenage Fanclub, mais on ne leur en veut pas parce qu'ils font ça vraiment bien.

The Knack - “Frustrated” (1979)

A great album that I think was overshadowed by the success of the single “My Sharona”. It has several great songs, including this one. In fact, the whole story of The Knack is interesting (quick rise to fame, industry backlash, career arc, etc.).

The New Pornographers - In the Morse Code of Brake Lights

There's a difference between catchy and smart & catchy, and The New Pornographers are always in the latter category. They've been at this since 1997, and they're really good at it.

Packed with details and hooks and sharp turns of phrase, it's another gem from a band that doesn't know how to release something less than great.

Nice pressing; cover signed by the entire band.

Sloan - Never Hear the End of It

30 tracks of great power pop from Nova Scotia's shouldn't-be-obscure-in-the-US Sloan.

This is one of those "four band members who all write great songs" bands, and they've been around for quite a while. It's funny that sometimes the take on Sloan is that they're "too consistent", as if putting out albums that are well-crafted and melodic is a problem?

Well, it's certainly not a problem here, 9 albums in.

She Came On is the best song in their entire catalog, and probably their only excellent one. I first heard it on one of the many monthly CMJ Music Samplers I used to get in the mail in the #90s .
