THE PRADO ACQUIRES 'EL SÁTIRO', THE PAINTING BY THE "IMMORAL PAINTER" ANTONIO FILLOL, FOR 110000 EUROS by Peio H. Riaño (ElDiario.es, in Spanish).

"In 1906, when the Valencian painter submitted The Satyr to the National Exhibition, he was declared an "immoral painter" by the jury, which withdrew the painting from public view. The academicians' sentence against the painting is striking: "It offends decency and decorum". The artist had dared to paint the news he found by reading newspapers. In the scene, he presented a grandfather who is holding his granddaughter, aged about ten, in a line-up in the dungeons of the Serranos Towers in Valencia. The girl, who was supposed to point out the rapist among the four suspects, makes the gesture of covering her face with her hands. She seems frightened to meet her assailant again and it is the grandfather who points. The art academics censured and rejected it."
