one #trans woman who successfully moved to the women's prison in 2018 said she's been falsely accused of #PREA violations before. she said that even if those accusations are proven false, it has a harmful effect on allowing trans people to be moved to the correct facilities.

in addition to the grievance process, the Prison Rape Elimination Act (#PREA) supposedly provides protections for #trans people in prison. from 2013-2021, none of the #prison system's proven PREA violations ever made it to final auditor reports.

"More often than not, what we find is that PREA is used not as a shield - it's used as a sword," Black & Pink MA director Michael Cox said. this often ends with #LGBTQ prisoners punished or sent to solitary confinement.

and I'm doing a slow reread of all of the novels and stories of #AnnQuinn b/c she deserves more attention and recognition for her work. I'm longing to get back to #Prea by #MiklosSzentkuthy and I'm (re)reading #Rilke and #FernandoPessoa + new biographies of these two.
