Over subscribed #chemist shops appear to be struggling to keep up with #prescriptions and it leads to errors. #Apps for repeats are unreliable in many cases, turnover of assistants appears high & thus the only just trained are teaching new staff. #Pharmacists like #dentists are being undervalued.

Many people depend on taking the correct #medications to stay out of the #GPs practice or #hospital. #Comorbidity is common with age. How many are skipping #prescriptions because they've been shorted or the #pharmacy has missed something out? Not everyone feels they can question the #pharmacist or has the ability to get to the #chemist again to correct errors. Home deliveries aren't always good when some medications need to be kept in the fridge. I hypothesise that this is affecting #UK health.

4/13 I have long used their automated phone system to #refill #prescriptions, but to date, I had resisted signing up for any #online #services with the pharmacy I deal with, because I lacked confidence in their ability to build and operate such services in a #secure fashion.

Boy, did I turn out to be right.

I decided to sign up for their website services this week because I had some things I wanted to check, and didn't want to take too much of their time on the phone.

My body's metaphorical check engine light has been on for months, now, but I absolutely hate going to see the #doctor with nonspecific complaints. Is it a nutritional imbalance? Stress? The fact that I got covid 3 months ago? Or maybe my glasses are just the wrong prescription? WHO KNOWS, so get ready for a whole barrage of appointments and tests and inconclusive platitudes! At least I am still fortunate enough to live in #Canada and have #UniversalHealthCare, plus extra coverage for things like #prescriptions through my lovely #union job, but the more under-funded and deliberately strained the #Ontario government makes this system (which the Conservatives actively want to break & discard), the harder it is to actually access the right types of care, even when you've got a good GP.

And yet I feel genuinely frustrated and angry and hurt by the fact that this inadequate level of care available to me is still way more than is there for so, so many others in this world -- especially other queer folk, and trans people in particular. It's deeply unfair that the world is like this.

I’m not sure when Walgreens added “transfer to another store” to their app but it it’s brilliant and I hope it stays forever. It showed me the stores around me that did have my medication in stock, and with one top of a button the prescription was moved. #prescriptions

I’m pretty sure names pharmaceutical companies give new drugs are all things their marketing director tried to convince people were real words during drunken beach weekend Scrabble games.
