A related post of mine, on language reform and prescriptivism:
"By oversimplifying the nature and aims of prescriptivism, we invite confusion, category errors, and semantic muddles"

Another day, another #French Speech & Language Therapist posting a super prescriptivist, alarmist and cringe video on Facebook that mostly shows we're not even able to differenciate between our missions and those of primary school teachers. No, seriously, IDGAF if children interviewed on the street can't recite their conjugations. It's got nothing to do with language disorders.

Apparently #SpiderMan didn't understand #case in the 1960s and was a bit of a jerk about it.

Is this an email from Amazon offering to sell me a platform from which I can observe fraudsters? Or is it telling me I should look out (which normally has a space) for them?
(It's a real email.)
also no matter how much you complain, languages will continue to evolve. and the obsession with keeping words meaning what they used to mean is an appeal to tradition. and do you know who's philosophy is based in the appeal to tradition? that's right, white supremacists.
so just keep in mind, #prescriptivism is bad and based in #bigotry. languages will keep evolving no matter what you say, so just relax and enjoy watching it happen
So many things wrong with this…To start with, why do people associate longer, latin-related words with more ‘formal’ when it is just ‘longer’? Second…what’s with the bellies…and the belly rubbing? @linguisticsmemes #linguistics #prescriptivism #Ignoranceofscience @linguistics

This is so true, Language is fluid and wonderful. Stop with the literal acting like Grammar-N@zi's, its not cute anymore. Fu** Colonial rules. STOP Linguistic prescriptivism.
Linguistics greatest gift is that it can be molded and stretched to properly express yourself in a way that feels natural to YOU.

God help me if I ever have to interview with a company that invents stupid words.
"we are a Series A startup building the 'operating system for rentalpreneurs'"
Just say you are building management software for small landlords. Gah!
#Introduction (since I am still new here): I am a linguist at Freie Universität Berlin, working on #Dutch and other #Westgermanic languages (#German, #English, #Afrikaans, #Plattdeutsch etc.). My focus is on #morphology and #LanguageChange, mostly from a #contrastive perspective. Also interested in #sociolinguistics and the relationship between language and society. #StandardLanguageIdeology and #prescriptivism are central topics in our #Graduiertenkolleg on #normativity at #FUBerlin.

@grammargirl That language changes is of course true, and it is also true that changes in language occur for a reason. Given those premises, are all changes in a language good? Perhaps one shouldn't even try to judge.

Alright here's my rant about #prescriptivism, you asked for it
A pet peeve of mine is people misunderstanding what literal and figurative speech even are
When people complain that "'literally' is used to mean 'figuratively'", they are belying that their theory of communication is overly reductive to the point of being demonstrably false
