I’ve been reading that #ChatGPT’s reasoning skills in #mathematics is declining and it’s having trouble with #prime #numbers.
So today, in a new conversation, I asked it if 71612153 is a #PrimeNumber, which it is, and ChatGPT said I had to add its digits backwards to get “26, which is divisible by 3” which it thought wasn’t prime. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #Math #PrimeNumbers #Divisors #Factors #Misinformation #GPT #GPT3 #GPT4 #Primes

Mijn kortste stukje ooit voor #NRC. Over het getal 111…111 (op de puntjes staan nog eens 86.447 enen).

Also, 2^170141183460469231731687303715884105727-1 would now be the largest #primeNumber solved by hand (unless you count just stating c_googolplex is a Catalan Mersenne number counts as solving by hand)

How do you feel about the number 3? In my brain 3 is only a prime number because of how small it is in the same way that 2 is only a prime because it is so small. To me it would make more sense to classify 1, 2 and 3 as something else. It's not until you hit 4 does the option of it being divided by something other than 1 becomes a possiblity so 5 should be considered the first true prime number.

@andresvillaveces The statement: "there are infinitely many 𝑛∈ω s.t. 𝑛²+𝑛+41 is a prime" is called Bunyakovsky conjecture. It seems that this conjecture is still open (𝑛²+𝑛+41 is the polynomial studied independently by Euler and Legendre with the remarkable property that its values for all 𝑛=0,1,...,39 are prime).

After a couple tries, I found this sequence of #primenumber counts on #OEIS (you have to include the single digit primes) http://oeis.org/A309572
The OEIS has table of the first 2500 entries and a log scale plot which I recreated here in Maple. The submitter, Rémy Sigrist, identified the pattern based on residues mod 6. Sadly there is no additional work linked.
I've added more colors for b ≡ 0 (mod 30 and 210) and it DOES look like the size depends on the distinct number of primes factors
