Mijn meest kunstzinnige naamgenoot: Carl Fasol (1815-1892).

Made a fascinating visit to the American Printing House for the Blind in Louisville yesterday. It has several museum galleries about its own history, the history of producing books for those with vision loss (in print and talking books), as well as a tour of its modern-day printing operations. Pictured is one of the first books printed by Louis Braille using his raised-text system. #DisabilityHistory #PrintingHistory

Here goes, my first attempt at #introduction: I'm professor of #visualculture at #NTNU, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, where I head up the fledgling research group Media, Data, Museums. As a photo historian with a background in professional picture research, I study the labour, systems, technologies, and #infrastructures that underpin visual culture from the early 1800s to the present. More of a media antiquarian than a media archaeologist. I'm the author of Picture Research: The Work of Intermediation from Pre-Photography to Post-Digitization – forthcoming from MIT Press in June 2023. In real life I'm quite loud; on social media I'm usually quiet.

Libraries, both public and private, are essential components of human culture & creativity. Today I’m pulling some books off the St Brigid Press shelf to brush back up on the histories of type design & printing in the Italian Renaissance, as background for a new little printing project. It’s good to sit down with a cup of tea & these learned, inspiring friends again. (Shop Dog considers all this very boring.)

Wanted to re-up that my book Six Centuries of Type & Printing remains available! Hot-metal typeset, letterpress printed in London, bound in Germany. I explain the history of printing from before Gutenberg through the present, with all the major events in between.

Can anyone researching London in the 1640s please keep a lookout for a stationer named Edward Dobson. We have quite a few newsbook refs to him, but he disappears just before coming up for trial in 1644, for printing things Parliament really didn't like. We're trying to trace what happened to him. Dead by Restoration. Newsbooks currently silent.
Brother of painter William.

#LivresDAvent Jour 19

@DarkSheepArts This may be a very wrong guess, but check with @glennf on #printingHistory I may be totally off base that he'd have some thoughts, but he might?

@glennf Replying to your post to add in tags of maybe #Printing #Linguist #PrintingHistory #LinguisticHistory in the event someone is searching or following those tags (I think there may be two new ones here? :))
From my personal perspective I would add in that what you share is #Art because #typography and all your museum pieces are just visually stunning. :)
