Plantations were forced labor camps for the poor and vulnerable with a grand monument to the wealthy and powerful plopped down in the middle of it.

So much of the history of slavery in the United States has been destroyed or disguised.

But not at Angola and Fairvue. One continued as a forced labor camp; the other continued as a monument to wealth produced by it.
