Well, it was a fun experience to run down a rented #Prius' battery in an hour while being parked, just by the entertainment system. Then the car is dead.

Then had to wait another hour to someone come out and have enough battery to start the engine and begin charging again when on the move...

Lessons learned, hybrids work differently? Or just do not rent a car (it would have been cheaper taking taxi back and forth).

The multi-function display screen on our 2009 Prius stopped working and we're looking for leads to reliable shops for repair or replacement. *NO DIY*

The local dealer was not useful--clear that they'd rather we buy another vehicle. We're hoping for more use out of this one which is otherwise in good shape before we go electric.

The new #Toyota #Prius looks surprisingly cool. But it costs the same or more than a full BEV. So why on earth would I buy it? #Toyota is so far behind right now it’s not even funny. I feel bad for them.

My car is sad because its battery has run out of volts. The multimeter says 6.99V, which is about half what it should be. This might explain why my car was having intermittent trouble starting over the last 2-3 years. (The Melbourne City Toyota repair centre couldn't detect that the battery was aging, so perhaps you shouldn't take your car in future?) Nevertheless, it kept on soldering-on.
After removing the old battery, I ordered a new one from a shop 10-15 minutes walk away that says they can in get a replacement tomorrow.
Considering that the datestamp on the old battery says it's 11 years old, it's had a good run — a very good run.
This is something good to remember next time you encounter a tosser who's watched "Top Gear" so often that he (it's always a he for some reason) can't pronounce "Prius" properly.

I talked to a #Toyota dealer today about getting a #Prius, and it didn't go well. People are reserving them 6 months in advance, without test driving one, because the dealer doesn't have any!

The salesperson compared this to Tesla, but I had to point out they at least keep one at the dealer for test drives.

Eye appointment this morning for #HumphreyVisualField exam. This afternoon #Prius in to the #Toyota dealer for its 150,000 mile service, basically an oil change, new air & cabin filters, and general inspection.

I've had a couple of Priuses and few people realise that there's a standard 12v battery used to start up the car and run basic functions.

I had a battery go dead but a simple recharge brought it back to life.

Never had to replace one but you were I'm glad you were able to get a replacement for free.

Welp, finally got one of the Big Three on my #Prius. While driving home from lunch, the ABS gave out, leaving me with only unboosted braking. I'd noticed the accumulator had been buzzing nearly constantly so am not surprised. Very much not looking forward to spending over $1100 on parts and sweating under the hood though.

The lift kit for my Prius has arrived. This is probably a mistake…

For anyone who asks me which EV they should buy in Idaho, I now point them to the Prius Prime. 44 miles of electric range will satisfy almost every commute, and you can drive it on trips with no worries. Right now there are two old-ass chargers between me and disaster (Winnemucca) if I want to drive from Boise to California. Plus it’s a great looking car!!!

I visited with a friend for a few hours in #Wallingford, and came out to find something very wrong with my car - when I turned it on, it revved up like a cross between a Harley & a jet engine.

A look underneath the car indicates some things are disconnected. My mechanic guesses that I’ve fallen victim to #CatalyticConverter theft, the bane of #Prius owners.

Now I get to wait for the #TowTruck. 😕

The thing that hybrid-vehicle skeptics warned us would befall our #Prius within a decade after purchase has finally happened after almost 18 years--the traction battery is going bad, as flagged by every warning light on the dashboard going off and confirmed by the local auto shop we've used and trusted for years. Cost for a new Toyota battery would be $3,800-ish; mechanic, citing his shop's experience, advsed against aftermarket batteries. Or we could buy a new EV at 10x the price. So...
