@Em0nM4stodon

Nice!

Windows has built in tools for this...

recommends a few tools for Android and Linux.

Real example of Metadata mismanagement? Vice news should have listened closely to @Em0nM4stodon because it was Vice's iphone photo metadata (posted to Twitter) that revealed John McAfee's location when he was on the run šŸ˜¬ !

npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/20

PS - Mastodon strips metadata on uploads :)

I love your s! :masto_love:

Yeah, Proton & Windscribe are the only free tier VPNs I trust.

Mullvad is **awesome**.

I really like the work this team () does, and think this is an excellent reference: privacyguides.org/en/vpn/

@iak yeah I love it too, itā€™s dead simple but been wondering these things for some time now. Hence I would usually use it for quick non-sensitive stuff. And Iā€™m hesitant to recommend to people since I canā€™t answer these questions myself. Thereā€™s also destiny from LeastAuthority leastauthority.com/community-m that I saw people talk about on . Apparently they host their own relays and have an independent audit. Wonder if there are others like it.

Umfangreich, English

Resist
What you do online can be tracked by organizations you may not know or trust and become part of a permanent record. A VPN canā€™t solve this on its own, but can prevent your ISP from being able to share or sell your data.

@werwolf @Yujiri Good catch! TY for documenting it in detail. The & folks have been dodgy as hell from day 1. It was always evident there were deep conflicts of interest, most particularly from the thread: github.com/privacytools/privac Also see: lemmy.ml/post/31433 & lemmy.ml/post/30736 & lemmy.ml/post/31487

@changeable@social.linux.pizza I don't personally trust privacytools.io. It's full of affiliate links. It used to be a great resource until the big clash between the domain owner and the rest of the team. Since then the team started privacyguides.org and moved all the content there. They're also on Mastodon at @privacyguides if you want to follow them.

When the most privacy-respecting service is the least popular & mostly unheard of, it means the privacy advice sites are not doing their job. They all continue to endorse a syndicate. Itā€™s pitiful. TheyĀ¹ should be embarrassed to still be standing behind . 1. ssd.eff.org securitycheckli.st @markosaric
