My kids' elementary school just started using a new app for various attendance and school pickup related matters. It seems fine. But, being a lawyer, I of course had to review the privacy policy, which expressly states that to ensure compliance with COPPA, the app is not directed at children under the age of 13 and that children under 13 are not permitted to use the app. Sigh.

“The Electoral Commission’s spokesperson told TechCrunch that the incident, which saw hackers access the Commission’s email, control systems, and copies of the electoral registers, may have affected as many as 40 million U.K. voters. This includes anyone who registered to vote between 2014 and 2022, as well as the names of those registered as overseas voters.”

If you live in the and are interested in - then you might want to add your signature to my petition to block the Online Safety Bill. This bill threatens basic encryption and would give the government access to everybody's personal communications.

‘A Federal Trade Commission lawsuit filed yesterday accused Ring, the home security camera company owned by Amazon, of invading users' privacy by "allowing thousands of employees and contractors to watch video recordings of customers' private spaces."’ arstechnica.com/tech-policy/20

Amazon might be fined $25 million. If so, that’s roughly what Amazon makes every half hour. And what an Amazon worker grosses in roughly a million hours.
