If you are upset about the rollout of #Google #Topics and the #privacysandbox in #chrome and are considering #apple #safari instead, or advising people to use Safari instead, etc… Safari has been doing basically the same thing for years now.

This is not to say that what Safari does is bad. It’s to say that you should take a few deep breaths and do some reading.

Finally made the main browser switch to #Firefox. Google's determination to build ad tracking into Chrome via the "Topics API" was the final straw. I laugh every time they use the term #PrivacySandbox. What a joke.

So far the biggest miss is Mozilla refusing to support desktop PWAs, but maybe they'll get there someday.

@steely_glint I've heard that argument, and while I'm not sure where I personally stand on it, I do think the #PrivacySandbox APIs are at least a step in a good direction. They move the targeting information from an adtech black box to inside your browser, where even if Chrome doesn't give you the controls you want, other browsers, even Chromium browsers, can.

@steely_glint The question of what to do is interesting because at this point, a UK regulator (CMA) has insisted that Chrome make the "#PrivacySandbox" work as well for targeting ads as #3pCookies did, before we can remove 3p cookies. So even if all this opposition convinces us, we can't just stop. We'd have to find a different more private way to target ads. One could argue that it was a mistake to agree with the CMA, but now what?
