#WritingWonders Feb Day 22 — What is your MC good at?

I was going to say "magic;" she's already figured out to do the impossible spell that only one other can do, the (evil in her mind at least) ruler of the world. There's so much yet to learn!

I was going to say "fighting;" but though she's won a championship title, she's been thrashed so badly she's had to be revived. She's always seeking better fighters to spar with, or training them to challenge her.

What she's really good at is doing the right thing. Amongst other things, she once saved hundreds when she got a building evacuated before a fertilizer bomb exploded. She at least gives herself credit for this success after being harassed—though privately she will explain if she hadn't learned the impossible spell, she wouldn't have been tricked into helping set the bomb in the first place.

#WritingWonders Feb Day 20 — How self-confident is your MC?

Depends. Does something important to others hinge upon it?

At one point in the WIP, she perceives the city may come under attack, but all she can gain control of is a museum-piece frigate whose XO is in the brig because he wants to go AWOL for, amongst other things, being assigned the ludicrous berth. The XO is integral to making the ship minimally able to fight, and he thinks the MC is being sent by the brass to pull his chain. She ends up betting him she can whip his ass. If he wins, he gets shore leave. He is twice her age, a marine captain busted down in rank, fifty percent bigger than her with better reach, and can self-levitate. He doesn't know she's been a championship prizefighter (mixed magical martial arts). Her confidence level on a scale of 1-10 is 11.

(A wound from the fight becomes a ticking time bomb that nearly kills her.)

How self-confident is your MC? Depends. Is it something personal?

At another time in the WIP, she enters her history class and realizes everyone now knows who she really is. A former gangster. It doesn't matter that she was rather spectacularly pardoned and given a title. Despite the burdensome responsibilities, many people consider it pure fluff. What hits her is that she was too busy saving herself and later saving the world to get her homework done! The closest thing to something she holds sacred is books and teachers. Her thoughts spiral into what her classmates will think of her, and how they will think her station will get her off from her responsibilities. Her image of an aloof and dangerous egghead, obliterated. She lays her head on her desk and bursts into tears. Her confidence level on a scale of 1-10 is sub-zero.

I am glad I'm no longer a teenager.
