The Jupiter of Plymouth was laden with woolen cloth and pilchards when it was captured on its way to Madeira in 1746.

The ship and its cargo were restored by the High Court of Admiralty, but the court retained many documents from the vessel as evidence, including dozens of cloth samples in a variety of colors.

Textile samples, whether wool, silk, linen or cotton can often be found in the Prize Papers collection.

This is what it looks like to bring students to The National Archives, UK, to study the Prize Papers.

This semester, our students from Oldenburg and Bremen University travelled to London to look at the records of the captured ships Concordia from Bremen, Franciscus from Hamburg, and Catherine from Denmark.

Future Prize Papers researchers open time capsules for the first time! It's the best of feelings.
