about time a prominent #labour figure raised this issue - it is convenient for #labour and #starmer that #sadiqKhan is outside #westminster raising this..... but we need someone outside #london taking the plunge also - everyone knows what london thinks

I am unconvinced a full-on #proEU agenda would do anything other than depress #labour support in marginals - a debate within #labour but outside #shadowCabinet might help clarify whether that is so

#starmer may be making a tactical error - perhaps there are more upset at his lack of #proEu alignment & distinct #left policies than would be repelled by their adoption - that is a judgement for #labour tacticians.

That’s so lovely to hear. Many people believe you wouldn’t want us back because the Brexiteers are so challenging and cause trouble. Believe me, we don’t like them either so we understand why their loud voices would not be welcome. But increasingly it appears a growing majority realise the mistake we made.

If I were in a seat where #libDems came first or second to a #Tory I would campaign for the #libDem candidate

It is not #strengthOfFeeling that matters politically - it is numbers; for every militant #proEu voice there is an equally adamant #littleEnglander. What matters is what the rest of the electorate think, not the committed.

I would also add that fixing the chaos #johnson caused will take way longer and much more pain than he took in smashing our place in Europe in the first place. At present I do not believe an explicit call to #reverseBrexit is an electoral winner

I think you mistake short term tactics with long term strategy; I see no prospect of #labour becoming another #littleEngland party, nor of the #libDems allowing the oxygen for a rival #proEU party to launch. I seem to recall Chukka & co tried that in 2019 and crashed & burned.

You might want a political scenario that allows a #returnToEu within a few years, but I cannot see one...there will be a #majorityLabourGovt come the #nextGE

I'm #ProEU and think #Brexit was stupid. But I don't want to go over all that again. I want a government who can get the trains running, the post being delivered, and the fundamental #healthCrisis addressed. Not to mention tackle #ClimateChange, energy and the cost-of-living.

Apart from being a bunch of neoliberals the Tory party cannot govern because it's too obsessed with the EU. So just forget about that for a while & let's have an actual government instead

I understand - my argument is mostly with naive tactics #proEU posts push - you do not resolve the car-crash of the current EU:UK deal by putting something in the #labourManifesto that can't be acheived.

IMO short term much can be acheived under "make brexit work" to help trade - but negotiating #singleMarket entry from where we are now takes more than a parliament - I hope for it in a 2028 #labourManifesto

leaving #EU was non-trivial - so is (re)joining the #singleMarket
