In 2015, in a bid to help small & medium sized enterprises (SMEs) the Cabinet Office gave itself 5 years to expand #procurement from SMEs to a third of all Govt. purchasing of goods & services.

The deadline was then extended to 2022, but the proportion of procurement from SMEs has actually remained broadly static at around 25%.

Only the the Dept. of Cuture Media & Sport beat the target making nearly half of all purchases from SMEs

It is hard to choose a good, reliable provider, that can sustain its operation (and yours) for the lang haul.

However, if you set your instance correctly, it should be _easier_ to switch providers.

It should be as easy as taking a backup from one place and restoring it on another.

But then, again, the technology is still young.

I've worked under government #Procurement regulations and they are tedious, arduous, bureaucratic nightmares. This is for good reason, it stops what the papers, inaccurately, call cronyism or graft. Giving public money to your mates is criminality with real victims not just a bit of political slight of hand.

IBM hatte weder die innovativsten noch die preisgünstigsten Produkte, aber risikoscheue und desinteressierte Entscheider griffen trotzdem gern auf die Angebote des damaligen Riesen zurück – anfangs auch wegen des guten Supports. Weitere Gründe nennt dieser Artikel:
