starting a new job feels like a dejavu and i always come back to things that still feel true years later with new eyes. Sharing a classic article for me that remains true of PM today https://www.svpg.com/product-discovery/ #Product #productmanagement #PM #ProductDiscovery

#Surveys are a pain to complete, and most people don’t invest much thought in filling them in, which means the #information they give is low-quality and unlikely to provide #strategic insight.
Talking to customers and asking open-ended questions yields better results. In most cases, you won't need to conduct more than a dozen such #interviews to gain a complete picture of customer #needs and #preferences.

Its not a #productleader, or any leader’s job to have all the answers, dictate solutions, and #micromanage how work is done.
It’s our job to set context, ensure our #productmanagement teams understand the problem or opportunity, and give them any constraints or guidelines.
Then we have to let them go do the #productdiscovery work to find the right solutions and sharing their learnings and proposals with us.
As leaders, let’s enable our #productmanagers to do what we hired them to do.

During the last few weeks, I read two interesting books: Escaping the Build Trap and Continuous Discovery Habits. There were a lot of interesting takeaways and resources shared to learn more.

Whether you’re a #leader, #engineer or someone else who isn’t usually associated with “getting to know the customer”, there's no excuse for not talking to your audience. https://jeffgothelf.com/blog/everyone-must-talk-to-customers/ #UX #LeanUX #UserResearch #ProductManagement #ProductDiscovery via @jboogie@twitter.com

The 10 principles of product discovery - according to Martin Spinnangr
1: Get the f*ck out of the building
2. Don’t just listen to your customers
3. Don’t make (useless) rigid plans
4. Expect to be wrong and love bad news
5. Iterate or pivot (or kill)
6. Think business, not just product
7. Prioritize your assumptions
8. Gradually increase the toughness of the tests
9. Estimate market size
10. Show your progress

Doing #CustomerInterviews is great! Doing it with a clear sense of what you’re trying to #learn is even better. Jeff Gothelf explains why. https://jeffgothelf.com/blog/what-are-you-trying-to-learn/ #ux #UserResearch #ProductDiscovery #LeanUX

This is especially useful in #ProductDiscovery to help navigate through uncertainty 🔎

The Discovery Discipline method by Tristan Charvillat and Rémi Guyot is a 7-step method to transform problems into solutions. Each step involves a deliverable that sums up the findings. They include optional activities, depending on how mature is your knowledge of the problem, which allows to go through the process in a flexible timebox. Started to experiment it at the office. Have a look.

#productmanagement #productdiscovery I have been reading recently Marty Cagan, Teresa Torres, John Cutler, Rémi Guyot, Éric Ries. Who else should I read / watch to learn more about #product management and the #discovery process please ?
