Product discovery is like solving a mystery. Uncover the needs, pains, and desires of your users, and piece together the puzzle to create products that truly resonate. Be a detective, not a fortune teller!

Its not a , or any leader’s job to have all the answers, dictate solutions, and how work is done.

It’s our job to set context, ensure our teams understand the problem or opportunity, and give them any constraints or guidelines.

Then we have to let them go do the work to find the right solutions and sharing their learnings and proposals with us.

As leaders, let’s enable our to do what we hired them to do.

The 10 principles of product discovery - according to Martin Spinnangr

1: Get the f*ck out of the building
2. Don’t just listen to your customers
3. Don’t make (useless) rigid plans
4. Expect to be wrong and love bad news
5. Iterate or pivot (or kill)
6. Think business, not just product
7. Prioritize your assumptions
8. Gradually increase the toughness of the tests
9. Estimate market size
10. Show your progress

The Discovery Discipline method by Tristan Charvillat and Rémi Guyot is a 7-step method to transform problems into solutions. Each step involves a deliverable that sums up the findings. They include optional activities, depending on how mature is your knowledge of the problem, which allows to go through the process in a flexible timebox. Started to experiment it at the office. Have a look.
