Its not a #productleader, or any leader’s job to have all the answers, dictate solutions, and #micromanage how work is done.

It’s our job to set context, ensure our #productmanagement teams understand the problem or opportunity, and give them any constraints or guidelines.

Then we have to let them go do the #productdiscovery work to find the right solutions and sharing their learnings and proposals with us.

As leaders, let’s enable our #productmanagers to do what we hired them to do.

If you manage individual contributor #ProductManagers, you're typically responsible for:

#1. an area of responsibility (a product, or set of product areas — i.e. the superset of all your reports' areas of responsibility), **and**
#2. a team of people (performance, motivation, engagement, careers, ambitions).

If you neglect to take care of #2 and only give attention to #1, you'll eventually fail at #1 too.

I typed my team mission + "what should I do?" and it gave me a very decent list of objectives for my roadmap (no kidding).

I asked for SQL optimisation tips.

Picking my #ProductManagement folks brains’:

What would you like / expect to see covered in a book on #OAuth written *specifically* for #ProductManagers (either for platforms providing OAuth-powered #APIs or for apps consuming others’ OAuth-powered APIs).

How deep would be deep enough for a PM, without going as deep as the OAuth specification?

What details would deserve diving deep into, but using less technical terms/examples/metaphors in the explanations?

Interesting -- when you say "#Productmanagers and #UX folks at #BigTech clearly found that people prefer "algorithms," otherwise they would have never implemented them."

Isn't it more likely they implemented these things because they benefited Twitter's bottom line, than people preferred them? Weren't users enjoying Twitter just fine before algorithmic timelines?

#Productmanagers and #UX folks at #BigTech clearly found that people prefer "algorithms," otherwise they would have never implemented them. PMs at companies that big make decisions based on data.

The key question for #mastodon, however, is whether to take a paternalistic stance of "we know algorithms are unhealthy for you" and force them to "eat broccoli." It's a question of what behavioral #economists call "nudging."

@eduardo_rich oh man I know this one…! My experience is with a team (sadly I didn’t get a chance to work with UX as I would have jumped on it) which was completely misaligned - a group of #productmanagers who didn’t understand the value of #ux in Enterprise software, and a UX team who decided that they were beholden to internal stakeholders. There was a lot of banging of heads as there were no shared objectives.
