I just joined the American Geographical Society, and although I won’t walk in clad in furs after my circumpolar expedition by dogsled, I do look forward to what they will bring… and maybe stop by the HQ next time I am in NYC...

Can someone tell me if I'm being paranoid or if I'm justified with my suspicions...

On #linkedin I've been receiving connection requests from several people that have nothing related to my career path or interests. These people message me just letting me know that I seem interesting and would like to share knowledge. They have all been young Asian women. Not many connections overall with around 100. No mutual connections, and very little actvity or posts of their own. They all start out with messages like "how are you. what are you doing. what is your plan for the day..." a lot of fluff messages that seem to go no where...

It feels awkward and suspicious in nature. Maybe it is innocent and friendly but I don't get that vibe...

Is anyone else experiencing this and does anyone have the same gut feeling of suspicion and distrust? Or is it just me?

This bothers me more than the connections that later ask if I'm interested in certifications and programs that will guarantee I pass on the first try... at least I know what they're selling...

I still primarily use #linkedin for career and professional networking. I do not use it for social interactions like I do with Mastodon, Twitter, or Facebook.

I find it awkward and suspicious when random people who want to connect (and I usually accept) and just want to chat and stuff. I usually do not warm up to people that way unless there is a very common ground and a point to the conversation... just asking me how is my day and what I'm doing because you're curious is not going to work for me... sorry...
