@eliasp @ColinTheMathmo As an aside, it’s really strange when #developers that use #Linux and other #FOSS tools champion an ecosystem where a thousand distributions and desktop environments bloom, but in the next breath insist the best #ProgrammingLanguage is one that lashes them to One True #Programming Style.

I grew up in an era when creating a new #OperatingSystem or a new #ProgrammingLanguage is done either by internal corporations, world famous research institutions, or top universities—because it took immense amounts of knowledge, intellect, and resources. Today, though, everyone and their grandmama are creating new OSs and PLs. Or are they?

Every so-called "new OS" is a mere redistribution of Linux. Every so-called "new PL" is an OO-FP hybrid that targets JVM, CLR, or LLVM. It is time for the #IT industry to reexamine what is "new", instead of merely overloading its definition, as C++ programmers are wont to do.

Okay, adding #swift Automatic Reference Counting (ARC), which is thread safe, to what my dream #programmingLanguage should have. Compared to Swift, #nim their preferred implementation, ORC, doesn’t leak memory when dealing with reference cycles. Although I don’t know if #nimlang their implementation it thread safe, as well.

Maybe my theoretical #languageDesign should use atomic operations and warn, but leak upon reference cycles. It seems to make the implementation easier but still thread safe.

#Lua is an elegant #ProgrammingLanguage capable almost in anything due to its dynamic nature and implementation. Yes, Lua's syntax is a bit clumsy and that's good for beginners but sometimes bad for more advanced types of programming. One example is `luafun`, another is following.
