When I explained to him the intent behind scattering the ashes on the wind so they would reach Asgard, he said I should just tell the gods we were putting safety first. I had to laugh!

Of course, I should have known to make the instructions and reasoning plainer - this is the same guy who - when I asked him to reseed the lawn - complained he didn't want to dig that many holes.

Well, that was interesting. I'm bedridden so I can't really burn stuff myself. I asked my non-Pagan husband if he could take a pot outside, burn the papers in it and scatter the ashes to the winds. Instead, since he didn't realize we have matches, he used the stove to light them and burned them in the kitchen and then, worried about catching the neighborhood on fire with the blowing ashes, soaked them down before pouring them outside.
