Yes, I know… sadly the vast majority of my really great, wonderful #ClimateActivist network from Twitter did not migrate here, either staying on #Twitter or going elsewhere. I did sign up for #ProjectMushroom but was on the waiting list for about two months, by which time i was already happily installed here on mastodon.green. It’s a real shame how it’s all splintered but I am very happy with the new community I have found here

Unfortunate news, it appears that #CurrentlyWeather, which runs a semi-federated Mastodon instance, (#ProjectMushroom, with public side of spore.social) seems to be shutting down. I hope they have the decency to let their users migrate to other instances (!). Unless they plan to keep running Project Mushroom? (they fundraised for the expenses for that instance).

Changes to #ProjectMushroom and #SporeSocial ... and apparently Project M accounts are publicly visible via spore.social urls?

(I said a few months back that I wasn't a fan of the Project Mushroom model and this development reinforces the reasons why)

I signed up to #ProjectMushroom 🍄 but whilst it was being set up joined mastodon.green, not realising mushroom was going to be on mastodon, too - by then couldn’t be bothered to change instance but keep on wondering whether i should, as i miss the climate Community i had on twitter - though v much like my new one here too. For some reason i can’t look at the spore instance timeline as i can with other instances- am i doing soemthing wrong?

Making the jump from #ProjectMushroom to #Spore so that I can more easily peruse the home timeline. I liked the non-federated aspect but find myself valuing the ease of finding people more quickly.

Edit: using the same handle across mastodon servers and twitter. Just changing up the avatar pics.

What is the point? Why create an instance that can't interact with the fedi?

Time to leave #Substack. I have a bad feeling about it and it's getting worse and worse to the day.
I see three possible replacements:

1. Go back to blogging only and integrate a #newsletter thing in my blog (it's kinda what I used to do with MailChimp back in the day).

2. Any #Fediverse option that I'm not aware of?

3. @EricHolthaus I know you want to start one as part of #ProjectMushroom. Any rough idea about when it'll be launching?

@bxknits It uses the technics of Mastodon but is a closed, not federated project.

The same people lanced the instance @spore.social which is federated, so we can interact only with the latter.
Not all people from #ProjectMushroom have an account on #SporeSocial.

For the record, I think it's a shame that #ProjectMushroom is putting effort into building essentially a new social network for people who, definitionally, will also seek connections with organizers & audiences they can't talk to on PM because it doesn't connect with the rest of the #Fediverse.

@bxknits Yeah, it's confusing. It uses the Mastodon platform but it's walled off from all the other instances, so if you want to follow someone there, you have to create an account. I guess the same people started #spore.social, which is the federated version of #projectmushroom?

I gave in and got a #projectmushroom account to follow people that are only on there. I'm gonna think of it as built on Mastodon but not part of the fediverse cause that seems to be how they've conceived it. It makes me sad -- why not federate with at least a few other values-aligned, well-maintained instances?
