By midday Grens knew he would not make it home before nightfall. Descent was slow going. His steps no longer had the springliness of youth. He decided to camp midslope, safe from oxodont hunters that roamed in the vale at night.
He made his camp on a ledge and waited for shadows to turn into greenish haze that was the night on Espass, and for golden specks of settlement's lights to appear.

But tonight there were no lights. The vale remained still and dark.

This world has such a sprightliness you can feel and even breath it in. It's a green paradise. The first colonizers were taken aback but they got used. 10 generations later, even the immense moon, with it's great blue and toxic oceans, is something we don't think about anymore. But some of our experts say things are changing. Our world is becoming colder every year. The Star Portal collapsed and we can't go anywhere. We may have to fix this world…

Whoever had the bright idea of setting a base on this planet should be shot. Twice. With a positron bazooka. In between the legs. The now evanescent memory of glory and all the fantasies our superiors sold us to accept coming here are just that. A fading dream. I must do 2 26 hour shifts every 68 hours. There's only 3 of us left here. The rest deserted. And for what? A stupid mining post. I'm so tired. I'm seeing lights again. I hate this place!
