Prominent Brexiters are outraged after seeing thousands of EU flags waving during a rendition of “Rule, Britannia!” at a televised concert in London.
Last Night of the Proms — the BBC’s annual celebration of classical music — became an ideological battleground for Leave and Remain supporters when it kicked off on Saturday evening after people started waving the blue-and-yellow flags of the EU, which appeared to outnumber Union Jacks in the crowd.

I can scarcely begin to express how absolutely *delighted* I am to read about the collective apoplexy triggered in these people by the sight of some flags.
What a ridiculous thing to be “outraged” about.
Better that they be outraged about the state of the NHS, crumbling concrete schools, child poverty… or even the diminished status of the UK on the world stage, in direct contradiction of the themes expressed in their beloved “Rule, Britannia!”
But such is the rabid xenophobia of the committed Brexiter.
No, they didn’t. No, he wasn’t. No, it didn’t. And no, it wasn’t. You’re welcome.

These patriotic anthems sound more and more ironic each year. I mean, at this point, it’s just withering sarcasm, isn’t it?

"A bioghraphical journey of memories": Raphaël PIchon and Pygmalion interleave the movements of Mozart's Requiem, with shorter choral works from across his life and career, in an idiosyncratic if utterly fascinating concert.
My review of last night's Prom for the Guardian.

The Monteverdi Choir and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique perform Berlioz's Les Troyens at the Proms, thrillingly conducted by Dinis Sousa, with Michael Spyres as Aeneas, Alice Coote as Cassandra and Paul Murrihy as Dido.
My review for The Guardian
@keefeglise it was a fascinating broadcast tonight - the first half was a dramatised account of the creation of the work, with actors voicing those involved and the orchestra illustrating their points.
And the second half was a powerful performance of the work. Very impressive, without the score to help them count!
It's kicking out time at the #Proms and hordes of roving pensioners and music students descend on South Kensington station, whistling variants of Shostakovich's DSCH theme.

So you had a tickly cough and just thought you'd go the concert and ruin it for everyone anyway?! #proms
L’objectif de ma journée de merde : tenir jusqu’à 23h30 pour écouter mes chouchous Voces8 avec Ola Gjeilo au piano aux #proms
Right. I would be the first to say that my Cat is not the sharpest claw in the paw. However.
We’ve just listened to a violin solo on the Proms and she stared fixedly at the tv and started purring loudly.
Dd1, her favourite human, plays the violin. The Cat likes to sleep in dd1’s room while she practises. #Proms #CatsOfMastodon
I am jsut catching up with last weekends #Proms (I know, glast, proms, what sort of musical polyglot am I?) and it is Beethoven.
I don't particularly enjoy Beethoven (I an wathcing anyway, to at least help me appreciate him). I tend to find his works heavy, intense, in-your-face.
But it is odd, because mush of the music I like is precisely this. Just not classical. I find it a puzzle.
The next #publicservicebroadcasting album, This New Noise, is up for pre-order. It’s a live album of original music they composed to celebrate the #BBC at the Proms last year. Only one track out yet, but I’m looking forward to listening to this again as I enjoyed the show. #psb #music #proms
