#Pronoun matching. I was looking at an instance, and its list of suspended servers. The reason for one of the suspensions was given as "the admin literally calls themselves a Nazi". Fine reason. But the pronoun?

#Epicene they/them/their/theirs, no problem. But that reflexive pronoun? Number concord says that the singular "admin" should get "themself" and not "themselves" as the reflexive. Am I off in this? Do most people use the whole set in plural, without making the partial adjustment?

When I write something and need a general third person pronoun, I usually hesitate between the phrase “he or she” and the single word “they”. A third option that other people than me might consider is to use “she” exclusively.

Reading a passage about #jazz musicians in which the author had chosen to use “she” to refer to members of jazz groups, I was pushed to realize that most jazz groups are exclusively male, and much less often may have a minority of female members, and that I have as of yet never seen all female jazz group (I don't doubt that they exist, just clearly not that many that I would have come across of such a group by chance).

This in turn made me reflect on the reason for this, and how other people than me might guess at possible reasons for this. Discrimination? Another ironic fact comes to my mind: certainly in the US, white people are “underrepresented” in jazz. But of course, no sane person would attribute that to #discrimination.

The issue of punishment for misgendering or deadnaming doesn't appear to be a problem in Montana, according to Emily Dean, director of advocacy for the Montana School Boards Association. She said she was unaware of any students who had been punished for such actions.

People representing educational organizations, pediatricians, parents of transgender children and students testified against the bill, saying it would lead to unchallenged bullying and harassment as well as anxiety and depression among transgender students.

A survey by The Trevor Project in 2022 found that 45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the previous year, but that those who were supported socially or at school reported lower rates.

"The problem with the bill is that it takes away the ability of schools and teachers and administrators to intervene when something becomes cruel, before it becomes physical,” Rossi said.
