I've been using Mastodon for awhile now, but since I've (finally) changed servers, I guess it's time for a new #introduction !

I'm Taylor and I'm a Canadian #writer, #proofreader, and #translator living in Tokyo.

My main muse is #reading, but #LanguageLearning is also a high priority for me. Expect many posts about #books and my inability to stop buying them.

There is a golden rule among editors: do no harm. What does this mean? It means we correct grammar and improve flow, and offer suggestions about character or plot, but above all, we work to ensure an author’s voice and vision remain intact.

A thing I love about my job as a #proofreader is when people try to write one word but accidentally write another word that is spelled very similarly but means something completely different, and also isn't used any more. So I get to have the fun of searching for it and learning old and obscure concepts. So often when I play Wordle I put in a combination of letters that isn't recognised, and I wonder why we don't use it. But once you step outside of the five character limit, there are so many strange and amazing words that have existed for a long time. It's like suddenly learning how pens were invented, or why cookers have four hobs. There are amazing stories and histories all around us.
