They pissed away hundreds of millions on California's #Prop22 to institutionalize worker misclassification, only to have the rule struck down because they couldn't be bothered to draft it properly. Then *they did it again* in Massachusetts:

Remember when Uber was going to plug the holes in its balance sheet with *flying cars*? Flying cars!

Subsequent research in California found that Uber drivers' wage fell to $6.22/hour after the passage of #Prop22, a worker misclassification law that gig companies spent $225m to pass, only to have the law struck down because of a careless drafting error:

After five years in charge and amidst a mass driver shortage, Dara Khosrowshahi finally figures out who Uberβs customers are.

@aspensmonster I drive #DoorDash here in #California.
Back in 2020 we passed #Prop22. There's a lot to it but the most important are:
1. Guaranteed 120 percent of the local minimum wage for each hour a driver spends driving. DoorDash calls these "active hours", the time in between accepting and dropping off.
2. A health insurance stipend for drivers who average more than 15 hours per week driving (active hours). $1,275 is the max and that's for 25 active hours/week average.
4/ So when was the last time you gave a thought to the safety of your #DoorDash #driver on a rainy day? Door Dash has some safety measures in place if a driver feels unsafe, but nothing to prevent someone from working 24/7 if they so choose. In CA #Prop22 prevents this sort of behavior, but in the rest of the country, a delivery driver can put themselves at risk (and often will) because of economic instability. Someone driving a 3000 lb explosive that can go over 100 mph should take breaks.
Today I covered the appeals court hearing over #Prop22 in the First Court of Appeal in San Francisco. Hereβs what gig workers were saying before the hearing:

These companies spent $225m to pass California's #Prop22, a ballot initiative that formalized worker misclassification, paving the way for all kinds of companies to convert employees to contractors at the stroke of a pen:
