@Reiddragon Especially if your IDE is . This is a problem I've encountered *way* more times than I should have.

what happens when libre software is neglected in preference of alternatives? happens. happens. happens.

the very last time i pushed jitsi as a solution, the person said, ''i will go on using and if zoom fails me i will go use jitsi. jitsi will always be there.'' it was a wednesday.

if you and others do not use it, how will it grow?

people literally host libre software as a second thought. the only proprietary software that i tend to prioritize are video games.

GlobalProtect (PANGP) was completely forgotten about until today, when I happened to notice, in htop, some unknown program taking up about 150MB of RAM... it was this little bastard! Even though it supposedly was not connected, it wasn't enough to be a service starting every time, it was also eating up a considerable chunk of memory (this machine has very few) for nothing! Who knows everything it does! from 🤬️ !!!

@EmeraldiatheCat @ZhiZhu @chargrille Salvaging platforms is a fool's errand.

What we're seeing is the logical conclusion of that model. Resetting the clock once again without changing anything will mostly end the same way.

I, just, , , !

I have been struggling with and for a month now. Tried numerous tricks to get it working and at best I got only handshake done and bunch of failed packets even when signal quality is 59. Now with all my hate I tried and this thing simply nailed it! It has been 10 years since I started email over fun and how come we ended up in a worst place? I would gladly pay for vara but no native gnu/linux support.😡

@lina @Elizafox So, how many of the cracks are source-available?

(Whether that be source of the patcher binary or the disassembled payload of a binary patch with comments & instructions to regenerate the patch.)

Because without being able to prove authenticity of the original binary, and then seeing exactly how it's going to be modified, one cannot really be sure that additional malicious behavior hasn't been added (it's software, of course it's at least a bit malicious).

It pains me how automated and corporate being used for automated is apparently too abstract for some of my family to understand or care about.

It doesn't even matter if I provide references & explanations on how it works, the "but we're not interesting" (completely failing to understand the automation aspect) mental block seems insurmountable and short-circuits any actual thinking about the matter.

Why is this a problem?

A voluntary group I'm part of uses a world-writeable Google spreadsheet to co-ordinate a rota, in the absence of a usable alternative (dates in the unmaintained seem to be broken).

Trying to edit a Google Sheet in a mobile web browser directs you to install/use Google's Drive app. But I have found a workaround.

Reload the in desktop mode, edit the URL to remove the /htmlview#gid=0 suffix, and enter to reload. The sheet reloads in editable form.

@shoq @skotchygut Not convinced history loss is fine at all.

That being said, it's probably referencing the platform so that's fucked anyway and it's not going to be recoverable.

And I'm really not sure what can be done about this exploitation. Further discussion that actually does not mention AI: writing.kemitchell.com/2021/01

Well, the brain rot is spreading quickly and has reached me:

Our employer is enthusing that we application developers should install a specific "AI code generator" into our IDE.

Entirely and heavily data-sucking. And of course it assumes you're eternally online connected to the mothership or you can't use the tool.

The quest by bosses to de-value human work continues, I guess.

@scott Other than building them into browsers, I don't see a reasonable way to do this.

Corposcum will always try to push corporate wherever they can.

Outside of banning them from the
once more (hah good luck), that's not happening.

@Nika2022 @tek That's really only enforceable with software, which should be deprecated anyway.

@marcan @gracicot Arguably purposely requiring software is in itself a form of sabotage of true ownership of one's hardware and ability to repair it.
