Last month, the city council in Somerville, #Massachusetts passed the first three ordinances defining “family or relationship structure” as a #ProtectedClass, akin to race, gender or sexual orientation. The ordinances also extended specific #AntiDiscrimination protections in police interactions and employment. A fourth ordinance is currently under consideration to bar housing discrimination.

Is economic status a #ProtectedClass? Yes, it is.

#Congress makes laws that directly benefit people who are economically disadvantaged. Those laws include provisions for helping people with housing, food, education and healthcare benefits.

There's no 'Title VII' for low income/poor people because that's what most of the laws governing housing, etc. are, a recognition that people needing help to access housing and the like need the promise and protection of federal law to create access.
