In 1900, Henry Fairfield Osborn suggested that Central Asia may have been the origin point of most animals.
This led Roy Chapman Andrews to take three expeditions to China and Mongolia in 1916-17, 1919, and 1921-1930.

In late 1922 at the Flaming Cliffs in the Gobi Desert, a juvenile skull was found, that would become the holotype for Protoceratops.

In 1923, the expedition prospected the same area again and found more material.

In 1971, in Mongolia, one of the most insane fossils ever found would be discovered. Two dinosaurs, fighting to the death, buried and fossilised together.

Why they were fighting is unknown, but the Velociraptor's claw is buried deep into the ribs of the Protoceratops. At the same time the Protoceratops has the Velociraptors hand in its mouth.
