I tried translating an old #poem in #Occitan, La Masca ("The Witch") by Louis-Diogène #Guiraldenc (1840-1869), into English as well as modern #Provençal. It's not perfect, and since I'm still learning the #language there are probably plenty of errors, but it was an interesting effort. https://www.stveje.dk/provencal/guiraldenc/masca/

At last, my introduction to the #Provençal #language has been updated and expanded! All the previous parts have been consolidated into one (massive) page, and the whole thing is essentially complete, although I'll keep making improvements here and there as I keep learning.

Trying to figure out the rules for the partitive article in #Provençal would be a lot easier if it was the same as in French, because there's lots of information out there about the French partitive article ... but apparently Provençal does it a little differently. Which, good for you, Provençal, you do you, but you're certainly not making it easy for me. #Occitan #LanguageLearning #Linguistics

Discovered a #Provençal #proverb: "Amic de cadun, amic de degun" ("friend to everyone, friend to no one"), and thought it was very apt and a succinct statement of the #ParadoxOfTolerance.

An example of the troubles I have trying to figure out the #Provençal #language: the verb "prendre" has a variant, "prene". None of my sources say which sub-dialect or region prefers which. All they say is they're variants or synonyms, and it doesn't affect conjugation at all, so you can't even tell them apart except in the infinitive. And this is far from uncommon: every word seems to have at least two or three variants, and often no way to tell which speakers favor which. #Linguistics

While I wait for feedback on the latest draft of my novel, I'm finally back at work on my intro to the #Provençal #language and already feeling like at some point I made the horrible mistake of feeding it after midnight, and now it's metastasized into a monstrous mammoth of mountainous magnitude and meandering, maze-like menace that I've foolishly attempted to master.

Currently editing my 1st #novel, set in the south of France, about an 11-year old witch who fears her father is an evil dragon.

I like #linguistics & #languages (of which I speak #Danish, English, & some #French, as well as dabbling in #Spanish, #Provençal, & now #Korean) as well as #math, #ComputerScience, & #science in general.

Only one new #book this month (it's hard times 😭 ), and it's probably not a terribly interesting one to a lot of people. But I've really been looking forward to this one arriving.

At a quick glance, it looks much more useful than the other book I got on the subject of the #Provençal #language which, it turns out, was notorious for being The Absolute Worst.
