In Western #Australia #Marri #trees (known as #GnaamaBoorna in the local #Aboriginal #Menang language) are pruned over decades, even centuries to take on a bowl or well shape and collect & store #water.
(Gnaama = hole for water, & Boorna = tree or timber.)
Living up to four hundred years, they are often found in ceremonial areas, along #SongLines, or high on hills where water was hard to access.

Coding at night (it's almost 1 am here)... is pretty terrible, for many reasons but perhaps especially when you've got small(ish) kids who you know will wake up at around 6 am and DEMAND breakfast.
But it's also really hard to stop once you get tapping on 'em keys.

More pruning before and after. Glad I worked with the other two tomato types before working with Brandywine Reds.
Before left: after right. These didn’t require the same amount of pruning as the San Marzano plants. Lots of cleanup at the bottom to lop off shaded areas. And a couple of side shoot/sucker lines got woven back into the Florida Weave trellis.

Okay, I’m done pruning this plant for today.
Lots of deep, shady, interior leaves lopped off.
Additional sucker / side shoots cut off— some I put in water as tho, I don’t know, maybe I would plant them someplace else? We will see.
First photo at 10am, second just after noon. Plant is more compact (good because there’s a smaller tomato plant to its left and that one will get more sun)

Short thread. 1. This is our 1996 Bramley orchard. Each year we prune every tree. This year we're taking quite a lot of branches off, which leads to a lot of timber in the spaces between the trees. Today I'm chopping up the prunings into small pieces using a tractor-mounted prunings pulveriser. #orchard #pruning #apples #Bramley
