The "One, but not the same" results that we detected in English speakers (doi.org/10.1007/s11098-021-017) replicated 6 times in Lithuanian speakers (doi.org/10.1016/j.cognition.20).

When people read about morally altered people being "different, they [thought] the person [wa]s qualitatively transformed, but numerically intact."

Does refer to just one thing?

There seem to be two (related) notions:

Curiosity1: goal-directed information seeking — e.g., following a string of citations to find the source of a particular claim.

Curiosity2: exploratory information seeking — e.g., watching whatever explainer video is recommended next, even if it’s about a different question or topic.

Although implausible beliefs correlated with fewer correct answers and more lured/intuitive answers on a reflection test,

believers were slower on the reflection test and the proportion of their incorrect responses that were lured was similar to non-believers.🤔

Consistent wit Byrd et al. 2023, authors conclude believers' “Poorer overall CRT performance may not necessarily indicate …more reflexive, intuitive” thinking.

Does reflective thinking predict question performance above and beyond understanding physics concepts?

This dissertation found two physics problems in which performance was predicted by reflection test performance, even when controlling for performance on related problems (among about 80 physics students).

Choices of 3 of the 5 "groups [were] predicted through the application of [ of reasoning]":

Psychometrics call for help!

A couple of months ago I asked for advice on the following question: does content validity have a shelf-life and need renewal? Thread with responses here:

fediscience.org/@TomJewell/110

In the submitted paper, we argued that we cannot assume measures developed decades ago 'retain' content validity, nor that they are valid across cultures.

A reviewer liked this content and now wants MORE discussion.

Any suggestions, @jrboehnke or others?

I am extremely proud of Laura Maldonado-Murciano who has brilliantly defended her PhD thesis today at the University of Barcelona. Laura has been an inspiring and talented PhD student who loves the challenges of psychometrics and the field of Gaming Disorder. Well done Dr. Laura Maldonado-Murciano!

Calling 😂

Can you suggest readings that deal with the question of and time? As in: does the validity of a measure have a shelf-life?

To my mind, a measures of (say) family interaction developed 40 years ago cannot be assumed to have remained valid. So validity evidence needs renewal, right?

I found some discussion of these issues here:
doi.org/10.1177/19485506176930

Any other suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance!

A new four-factor "Intuitive-Analytic" thinking scale outpredicts variance in allegedly single-construct measures like Need For Cognition or Congitive Reflection Test?

Christie Newton et al. conclude that "classifying people as “intuitive” or “reflective” (absent further specification) is an oversimplification [and] using single-dimension measures, such as [NFC] or the CRT...may lead to incorrect conclusions..."

Dear Researchers,
1. At least how many items are needed to reflect one construct?
2. Research says at least 4 items are needed. But one item is also used in some studies?
3. If the internal consistency (alpha) is low among the items for one variable, for example less than .70, should I change the items?
I would appreciate your help!

folks: On the IPIP website there's this entry for social desirability bias - but I cannot find a reference or justification for it at all - closest I can find is Edwards (1984) who showed positive correlations between desirability and probability of endorsement of an adjective. I can see the logic but would like a reference/ justification!
