One of the holdbacks for me from delving too deeply into anything psychoanalytical is that a lot of it seems to stem more from intuition (at least from my own perspective).
While I appreciate a lot of modern brief psychodynamic interventions, psychoanalytical concepts like the defense mechanism of "splitting" seem like they carry assumptions or biases in identifying them.

I think there is something beautiful about the fact that no matter what you know about grief, how to help others through grief, or how many times you've experienced grief, you still experience the journey when you go through it.
In losing my dog I am now going through the different stages of grief. No matter how much I know, I have to do this. It doesn't matter if you're a "grief expert"--you are still part of the existential human experience.
