"...scientists who study viral transmission see another lesson in the pandemic school closures: Had the indoor air been cleaner and safer, they may have been avoidable. The coronavirus is an airborne threat, and the incidence of Covid was about 40 percent lower in schools that improved air quality, one study found."

Car culture plays a huge role in obesity. Insist on walkability and good liveable city design.

Step 1 is eliminating parking minimums, making density possible for walkable distances.

True, read: Humans invested in public health & sanitation because they got tired of dying from diseases. They dragged their leaders kicking & screaming into public health, after it became painfully clear there was no alternative. It'd be nice if we could pay attention to history instead of constantly repeating it, jessicawildfire.substack.com/p

"Among those surveyed that did not participate in SNAP, households that were entirely Black or multiracial were more likely to be food insecure than white households.

By contrast, of the households that did enroll in SNAP, those that were entirely Black or multiracial actually had a decreased likelihood of being food insecure when compared to their entirely white counterparts."

"...a new study...finding that the higher mortality rate among Black Americans resulted in 1.63 million excess deaths relative to white Americans over more than two decades.

Because so many Black people die young — with many years of life ahead of them — their higher mortality rate from 1999 to 2020 resulted in a cumulative loss of more than 80 million years of life compared with the white population, the study showed."

Can Labor Market Policies Reduce Deaths of Despair?

The researchers find "no significant effects on drug or alcohol-related mortality, but DO FIND significant reductions in non-drug suicides. A 10 percent minimum wage increase reduces non-drug suicides among low-educated adults by 2.7 percent, and the comparable EITC figure is 3.0 percent."

I have already been not Liking all of my friends' photos showing you unmasked in restaurants, sports venues, and other large crowds.

At this point I'm going to start hiding posts from friends who do this. I don't think you realize how much harm you are doing to our future by normalizing unsafe activities.

More people died from in 2022 than 2020 & 2021 combined. We can't keep acting like everything is OK when it is not.

Unsure what this will achieve except money for companies selling tests. We've had far too many false divisions imposed under the auspices of , both within the country (not being able to travel to Wales or Scotland!! ) and internationally. They're not going to work given is everywhere and just impose hardships on those with relatives abroad. Surprised (and also possibly unsurprised) that taking this decision.
