Ali's work for broadcast media is so poetic and sociologically superb.

The purpose of this zine is to serve as a primer for the study of the history of Black women in the United States.

The three theories are
helpful for anyone interested in the study of #BlackStudies, #BlackHistory, and #BlackWomensHistory in particular. There's also a recommended reading list at the end. Link it in next post.

#PublicScholarship should challenge academic standards.

IMHO the whole "I argue" statements are there to measure an individual's "contribution" for the purpose of career advancement not knowledge advancement. Not to mention, there for a lazy reader who just wants to skim am article to find the central arguments without engaging with the full text.

Interesting. BF (not an academic but avid reader) is reading a book:
- on a topic he is interested in
- on a topic he is knowledgeable about
- written by an academic
- published by public-facing but semi-academic press

His reaction: "I hate all the 'I propose' 'I argue' 'I will show.' Just do it."

I don't disagree. They're part of the #HiddenCurriculum code to "proper" #AcademicWriting that I haven't cracked and get called out on by reviewers = #Jargon
